In her first solo exhibition, Evily Ailianou presents an aggregate of works that come from seemingly different or even contradictory sources.

However, the “whole” which is created ultimately carries the pluralism of human existence. We are not made up of a single piece, but we rather are a mosaic. Since all the presented techniques come from the same person, this means that each one represents an aspect of her personality.

In her exhibition at Vryssaki, Evily Ailianou will present works that combine natural materials and everyday objects, creating landscapes of calm and serenity which could be evocative of a certain type of “eastern zen”.

Black and white photographs complete an apparent contrast, since the power of the contrasts allows us to “see” the colour behind and through the black and white.

Finally, drawing acts here as the link between the two, reflecting the width of the artist’s pursuits and leading us onto multiple paths of styles and materials. Pencil and black ink highlight the brushstrokes of colour and colour accompanies the black line, in a constant dialogue between colour and “non-colour” – if black would be considered here as “non-colour”.

One can see the parallel between her linguistic erudition (she speaks 6 languages and is a conference interpreter) and the diversity of both her inspirations and stimuli, having grown up and lived in different countries of the world.
